A solar pump utilizes three different kinds of wiring: sensor wiring for well low and tank full, wiring from the solar panels to the charge controller and pump wiring from the pump to the charge controller. Solar panel wiring (10 gauge) is pretty fool proof, connectors are labeled “male” and “female” to plug and play from panel to panel and panels to controller. Sensor wiring (18 or 20 gauge, two strand) just requires a quick screw down connection with the charge controller. We hear that the hardest part of a solar pump install ends up being an underwater wire splice between the pigtail of twelve gauge, three strand wire off the pump and the extension. But after watching the video below or our SPLICE TUTORIAL, customers have no problem making the right connections.
