Submersible well pumps are designed to be narrow enough for well casings and generally are sized to the vertical lift that they need to provide to get water out of a well and to a tank at the surface. Solar surface pumps are increasingly popular too as they can pressurize water from a tank to homes, irrigation or livestock waterers. Choosing the right style and size of pump does take some practice.
